“I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.”  — Galatians 2:20 NASB

Where do we find our identity? If someone asks you who you are, what would your first answer to that question be? “I am David. I work for a Toyota forklift company.  I enjoy playing basketball, playing my guitar, and eating spicy snacks. Not all at the same time.”  These are true and honest replies on my part, but is that the best place to find my identity? No.

I should find my identity in Christ. I should have already set aside my own life with the goals and plans I have for it. By God’s grace, I believe I have. As Christians, we should do more than set aside our  goals and plans for our lives.  We’ll give it up. We crucify our own lives and forget about it, with the understanding that God’s plans for us  are far better and far more profitable. God’s life for me is better than anything I could plan for myself.

Look closer at the second and third phrases in this verse. “and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me;” I want to focus on that phrase, “Christ lives in me.” Do you let Him show His life in you, or do you keep it quiet? Your identity is found in what you do, quite often. So what do you do with your time?

What are you doing with your life? Is Christ living in you and thru you, or are you still doing your own thing? If you’re a Christian, you have faith in God to save you from sin and hell, rest assured that you’re not living for Christ alone. Christ is living His plan for you thru you. He’s living His plan for my life thru me.

So the next time someone asks you “who are you?”, what’s your answer going to be? Do you find your identity in your work, in your hobbies, in your family heritage, in the city or town you live in? Or do you find your identity in Christ? Are you living the life God has for you?

“I am David. I am a Christian. And God has called me to a ministry to encourage both young adults and older Christians to stay true to their faith in Christ.” This is my new identity in Christ. This is who I am in Christ.
